The creative path of this painter is shaped by her guiding principle: Art only begins where Imitation ends. (Oscar Wilde) This belief is evident in her willingness to transcend the confines of conventional painting, choosing to emphasize individuality and creative expression above the simple replication of the visible world.
Kristina Čivilytė’s paintings stand out for their bold and dynamic color schemes. She frequently uses both vivid and misty hues, often weaving in the deep, warm tones of autumn to establish striking visual contrasts. The abstract elements present in her work encourage audiences to discover their own meanings, transforming each piece into a personal journey across memories, impressions, and envisioned possibilities.
At the heart of Kristina's artistry lies a spirit of experimentation. She adeptly blends conventional and mixed media methods, at times introducing specialized techniques to amplify the emotional depth of her paintings. Her creative process is intuitive, with artworks taking shape organically through memory, exploration, and a profound sense of spiritual and imaginative inquiry. This approach has resulted in a collection marked by a distinctive energy, a quality highlighted by art critic Agnė Bartišiūtė-Janušienė.
About this artwork+
In this painting titled "The Sea in Violet" by Kristina Čivilytė, a vivid expanse unfolds under a transitioning skyscape. The upper sections are awash with soft violet and pink hues, suggesting either an early dawn or the closing moments of a sunset. These cooler sky tones gradually merge into a darker canvas where deeper blues and hints of indigo portray the rolling waves of the sea below. Near the forescape of the piece, bright splashes of yellow and green streak across, evoking the sandy shores at the edge of the water, touched by hints of light or reflections. The brushstrokes are broad, dynamic, and filled with movement, giving a sense of both calmness and gentle motion—the hallmark of seabound vistas. The entire scene is rendered with an abstract touch that leaves much to the imagination, allowing the viewer to feel the restive peace of a coastal evening.
