The creative path of this painter is shaped by her guiding principle: Art only begins where Imitation ends. (Oscar Wilde) This belief is evident in her willingness to transcend the confines of conventional painting, choosing to emphasize individuality and creative expression above the simple replication of the visible world.
Kristina Čivilytė’s paintings stand out for their bold and dynamic color schemes. She frequently uses both vivid and misty hues, often weaving in the deep, warm tones of autumn to establish striking visual contrasts. The abstract elements present in her work encourage audiences to discover their own meanings, transforming each piece into a personal journey across memories, impressions, and envisioned possibilities.
At the heart of Kristina's artistry lies a spirit of experimentation. She adeptly blends conventional and mixed media methods, at times introducing specialized techniques to amplify the emotional depth of her paintings. Her creative process is intuitive, with artworks taking shape organically through memory, exploration, and a profound sense of spiritual and imaginative inquiry. This approach has resulted in a collection marked by a distinctive energy, a quality highlighted by art critic Agnė Bartišiūtė-Janušienė.
About this artwork+
This painting, "Sun and Sea," by Kristina Čivilytė, is a captivating display of colors and emotions. The upper half is dominated by dark, stormy blues and purples, suggesting a moody sky. Below, there's a vivid contrast with a fiery line of orange and red, which looks like the sun setting on the horizon. The reflection in the water doubles the impact of these warm colors, creating a sense of depth. Čivilytė uses a loose, fluid style. Her brushstrokes blend colors in a way that feels both chaotic and harmonious. There are hints of structural elements, like what might be distant buildings or ships, adding a layer of mystery. Overall, the artwork evokes a strong sense of nature’s power and beauty, masterfully playing with light and shadow. Kristina Čivilytė's technique beautifully captures the fleeting moments of sunset, making the viewer feel both the tranquility and the turbulence of the sea.
