Vidas Pinkevičius (1949–2012) was born in Gruzdžiai, in Lithuania’s Šiauliai district. He received his formal art training at the Vilnius Art Institute, where he graduated in 1973, specializing in wall-painting and mosaic. Following his graduation, Pinkevičius immediately joined the Klaipėda Adomas Brakas Children Art School as a staff member, a position he held and contributed to until his passing in 2012.
Throughout his career, Pinkevičius was an active participant in art exhibitions, where he primarily displayed oil paintings. His works are included in private collections throughout the United States, Russia, Lithuania, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, and other countries, attesting to his broad international recognition. He held over forty solo exhibitions in Lithuania and took part in international exhibitions in Russia, Sweden, and the USA.
Vidas Pinkevičius’s art was characterized by figure compositions interwoven with mythological and symbolic content, as well as compelling landscapes. Among recurring subjects in his paintings were blossoming solitary apple trees, gardens, fresh spring meadows, and the understated greys of autumn. Motifs from Lithuanian folklore and biblical stories were also prominent in his work, reflecting his strong connection to cultural heritage. Expressionism remained the hallmark of his artistic style.
His talent has been formally recognized in Lithuania, where four of his paintings are included in the Lithuanian Art Museum’s collection. Noteworthy as well is his 1986 admission to the Lithuanian Artist Union, affirming his established status within the Lithuanian artistic community.
