Vaidotas Ruibys was born in Ukmergė, Lithuania, on April 24, 1959. Soon after his birth, his family moved to Kaunas, where he would spend most of his childhood and youth. This relocation had a lasting impact on his artistic development, as Kaunas boasts a vibrant cultural and educational atmosphere.
In 1971, Ruibys commenced his formal art studies at the Juozas Naujalis Art School in Kaunas. His exceptional abilities quickly attracted the attention of his instructors, who regarded him as a remarkably talented and promising student. During this period, he particularly excelled in graphic arts, with several of his pieces earning awards at various republican competitions that celebrated new artistic talent in Lithuania.
Vaidotas Ruibys has devoted much of his career to exploring the nude genre. His paintings strive for more than simple depictions of the unclothed human figure; he frequently focuses on particular details or captures delicate human emotions, lending his work a sense of depth and reflection. This sensitive method attests to his technical prowess and his insightful grasp of the intricate interplay between form and emotion.
In his compositions, Ruibys often depicts women with reserved or inquisitive expressions, cultivating an atmosphere of intimacy.
