Silvija Pupelytė is a graphic designer and illustrator whose creations are distinguished by the incorporation of symbolism and surrealism. Her artistic approach centers on probing the limits between reality and imagination, employing imagery that defies ordinary perspectives and encourages thought-provoking analysis.

Influenced by the Surrealist philosophies of André Breton, Silvija Pupelytė endeavors to weave unconscious elements into her artwork. She works to dissolve the boundary dividing dream from reality, positioning visual motifs in unexpected and contrasting settings. By doing so, she invites viewers to interpret these unusual images through their own perspectives, resulting in personal and distinctive understandings of her art.

An essential feature of Silvija Pupelytė's visual expression is the deliberate inclusion of surprise. Her artworks might display drooping eyes, fish, skulls, or other incompatible motifs within otherwise conventional landscapes. These conspicuous, out-of-place details prompt viewers to reflect, revisit the scene, and challenge their original impressions.

By means of these strategies, Pupelytė encourages her audience to reconsider their observations and uncover links among objects that appear unrelated. The surprising pairings and symbolic visuals in her pieces inspire a new perspective on the familiar, revealing additional layers of meaning and interpretation.

About this artwork+

In the foreground of the painting, a large, intricate seashell dominates the scene, suspended in the center against a twilight sky. The shell, with its smooth, curving body and sharply pointed spiral top, is rendered with a rich blend of white, cream, and golden hues that give it a lustrous, almost translucent appearance. Its open structure spirals inward, suggesting depth and complexity. The background features a serene landscape at dusk. There are gentle clouds streaking the sky, tinted with yellows and blues suggestive of a setting sun. Below the horizon, a tranquil sea reflects the dying light, merging seamlessly with the wet, dark sand of the shore. Small islands or land formations dot the distant waters, partially obscured by mist or cloud. The interplay of light and shadows across the composition creates a quiet, contemplative atmosphere, emphasizing the natural beauty and the mystic allure of the sea and shore. The overall effect is one of peaceful solitude, inviting the viewer to listen to the faint, imagined sound of the sea echoing through the depicted shell.
