"I am Saulius Maldaikis – an artist whose creative journey began in my youth, while studying at the Kaunas School of Applied Arts. The artistic foundations I gained there became a solid starting point, but most of my creative growth happened as a self-taught artist – constantly experimenting, making mistakes, seeking new forms, and delving into what truly matters.
My artistic practice is more intuitive than academically based, yet that very quality gives my works freedom, spontaneity, and authenticity. I have participated in alternative music festivals, where my works not only drew interesting attention from audiences but also sparked discussions and interpretations.
In terms of style, I am drawn to the traits of realism, surrealism, impressionism, and symbolism. My art balances between the visible and the invisible – between reality and visions. I am inspired by abstraction, spiritual themes, the relationship between life and death, the duality of human nature, as well as psychological and psychedelic motifs. I explore philosophical and existential topics, am fascinated by the worlds of fantasy, the mysteries of the universe, and humanity’s place within it. In my works, one can find both a contemplation of nature’s beauty and reflections of critique and irony.
My works are unconventional – they are like small riddles, encouraging the viewer to pause and reflect. They are rich in symbols, metaphors, and subtle details that we often overlook in everyday life. These are messages that do not speak directly – they invite each viewer to discover a personal meaning.
My color palette is dominated by bluish tones – subtle, calm, yet full of depth. I avoid thick layers of paint to highlight the fragility, sensitivity, and inner silence of the work.
Each of my creations is unique and original – made with sincerity and dedicated to those who are ready to look deeper."
About this artwork+
This painting by Saulius Maldaikis, titled "Temptation," is quite vivid. It shows a surreal landscape with striking details. In the foreground, there are angelic figures with halos. They stand by a shimmering body of water. Behind them, snow-capped mountains rise toward the sky. The sky is a mix of deep blues and greens. Two planets float above. One is bright and glowing, the other darker with a halo of light. Maldaikis uses bold colors and fluid brushstrokes. This creates a dreamy atmosphere, blending reality with fantasy. The style feels both magical and contemplative, inviting viewers to explore deeper meanings.
