Rūta Burbulė is a Lithuanian artist whose relationship with art has been enduring since her early years. She is a graduate of both the Vilnius Justinas Vienožinskis Art School and the highly regarded National M.K. Čiurlionis Art Gymnasium, where she specialized in painting. Later, Rūta completed her master’s thesis in Art Education, and for over ten years, she has been imparting her knowledge as a teacher in a range of public and private institutions.

It was fifteen years ago that Rūta came upon silk painting quite unexpectedly. Her initial experiment—painting a small scarf—soon turned into a passionate pursuit that continues to be at the core of her creative practice. The act of painting on silk brings her both relaxation and space for experimentation, as every piece is guided by her curiosity and innovative spirit. Through the years, she has created diverse silk artworks, such as accessories, scarves, shawls, ties, dresses, curtains, and expansive paintings, unveiling several distinctive collections of garments painted on silk.

Beyond her artistic abilities, Rūta Burbulė is also recognized for her influence within Lithuania’s silk painting community. She led the Lithuanian Silk Painting Association as its President from 2015 to 2018 and continues to participate actively as a member. Among her accomplishments is a win at the International Silk Painting Competition in France, underscoring her dedication and international standing in the field.

Besides her roles as an artist and teacher, Rūta is involved in a variety of artistic initiatives, performances, and exhibitions. She has mounted eight solo exhibitions and taken part in more than twenty group shows. Today, she pursues her artistic endeavors at the Druskininkai Craft Centre "Menų kalvė", where she remains fully engaged in creative projects and community involvement.

About this artwork+

This painting titled "Sunset" by Rūta Burbulė captures a whimsical view of nature bathed in the warm glow of a setting sun. A tall tree stands prominently in the center, its trunk a stark white against a backdrop of vibrant yellows, ambers, and soft greens. Delicate branches reach upwards, sprinkled with dark, abstract spots that suggest leaves or perhaps shadows. The colors blend fluidly, giving the scene a dream-like quality. Around the tree, the underbrush is depicted in rich, earthy tones and abstract shapes, suggesting dense foliage. Splashes and dots of pigment across the canvas convey a sense of movement, as if the landscape is gently swaying with the breeze. Burbulė’s style in this work is fluid and expressive. The use of watercolor enhances the ethereal and transient quality of the sunset. The painting seems to celebrate the beauty of the natural world in an almost mystical way. It invites viewers to pause and soak in the tranquility of the moment captured on the canvas.
