Rimas Bružas is a journalist, filmmaker, and motorcyclist known for his distinctive perspective in visual art. He does not label himself as a painter or draughtsman; rather, he describes his artistic activity as simply playing with colours. This unrestrained, playful spirit stems from his self-taught background and the diverse experiences he has gathered across multiple professions.

Bružas’ artwork is characterized by a unique poster-like aesthetic, featuring clearly defined forms and a pronounced use of contrast. He places great importance on simplicity and clarity in visual communication, regarding these as fundamental to his practice. According to Bružas, the most effective way to express his views is through direct visual language, which leads to images that are simultaneously striking and minimalist.

Instead of relying on traditional techniques or established theories of colour, Bružas infuses his art with his own life experiences and emotions. For him, the true value and visibility within a painting lie in its ability to reveal the artist’s inner life, rather than in strict adherence to conventional artistic methodologies. This belief shapes all his work, turning each creation into an immediate extension of his feelings and personal history.

Though his visual pieces are vibrant and engaging, Bružas insists he never received a formal art education. He honed his creative perspective over many years of working professionally, particularly in the fields of journalism and filmmaking, where visual storytelling is key. He maintains that skill is developed through practice, trial and error, and learning from one’s missteps. In his own words, it is a matter of “paddling forward”—taking on obstacles, experimenting, and relentlessly expanding creative limits.

About this artwork+

The painting features two stylized, towering sneakers standing side by side, each filled with bright and contrasting colors shaped into abstract geometric forms. The sneaker on the left is primarily in shades of red and pink, with hints of yellow and brown, reflecting a warm palette. The one on the right uses cooler tones of green and blue, laced with beige and white. Both sneakers showcase intricately woven laces and have a patchwork-like texture that gives the impression of being crafted from multiple pieces of colored material. The structure and composition evoke a sense of unity and contrast, emphasizing the individuality of each part of the 'couple' while also highlighting their togetherness.
