"Over the past few years I have concentrated on the urban landscape genre. Old Vilnius—empty, contemplative, decaying, and alive all the while—is my most frequent (but not only) protagonist. My manner of painting utilises impasto and is expressionistic, sometimes approaching realism. The city matters to me not only as material form and shape but as a singular place of being that contains glimpses of a multi-layered past and shelters a soul unique to it. I aim not only to understand and portray that soul but also to reflect on, interpret, and recreate it in my own way. This gives the objective city vista a subjective, personal turn."

Regina Pečiulytė graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1999 and currently lives and works in Vilnius. She is an active exhibitor with nearly 20 solo exhibitions to date. Her works are held by collectors in Lithuania, the United States, France, and elsewhere.

About this artwork+

This painting by Regina Pečiulytė is called "One July Morning." It shows a peaceful landscape. The foreground has a grassy field with soft, muted colors. A path winds through it, leading your eye into the scene. In the background, trees stand tall. Their leaves are painted in various shades of green, blue, and yellow. The colors blend together beautifully. The sky above is light, suggesting a clear day. Pečiulytė uses thick brushstrokes. This adds texture and depth. The style feels impressionistic. It captures the essence of a summer morning. The painting evokes calmness and quiet beauty.
