"Over the past few years I have concentrated on the urban landscape genre. Old Vilnius—empty, contemplative, decaying, and alive all the while—is my most frequent (but not only) protagonist. My manner of painting utilises impasto and is expressionistic, sometimes approaching realism. The city matters to me not only as material form and shape but as a singular place of being that contains glimpses of a multi-layered past and shelters a soul unique to it. I aim not only to understand and portray that soul but also to reflect on, interpret, and recreate it in my own way. This gives the objective city vista a subjective, personal turn."
Regina Pečiulytė graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1999 and currently lives and works in Vilnius. She is an active exhibitor with nearly 20 solo exhibitions to date. Her works are held by collectors in Lithuania, the United States, France, and elsewhere.
About this artwork+
The painting "By the Baltic" by Regina Pečiulytė is vibrant and textured. Tall trees stand prominently, their trunks painted in warm browns. The landscape gives a sense of depth. The sky is a bold blue with swirling white clouds, hinting at movement. Strokes are thick and expressive, showing an impressionistic style. This adds life and emotion to the scene. The ground is a mix of earthy colors, creating an impression of nature. Pečiulytė captures the essence of the Baltic landscape with rich color and bold brushwork.
