About this artwork+
In the painting, a nude figure stands in a small, blue boat on a rippling body of water, their back to the viewer. The person, appearing slender and lithe, holds a long, narrow paddle vertically with both hands, stabilizing it against the boat's edge. Their head is turned slightly to the right, possibly gazing towards the horizon or focusing on maintaining balance. Intriguingly, an alligator rests partially in the water and partially across the boat behind the figure. Its scales are detailed, contrasting with the smoothness of the human skin and the gentle waves of the water. The creature's mouth is slightly open, showing its teeth in a subtle display of potential danger. The setting and posture of the figure evoke a sense of calm yet tense balance, blending a surreal interaction with nature and the unexpected presence of the alligator in this poised, silent moment.
