Marius Strolia is a celebrated Lithuanian artist renowned for his vibrant and versatile creative approach. He has been a member of the Lithuanian Artists' Union since 1999 and joined the "Individualists" painters’ section in 2016. His artistic oeuvre encompasses a broad spectrum of media—painting, printmaking, sculpture, assemblage, collage, installation, and photography—all demonstrating his relentless pursuit of fresh forms and techniques.

Strolia’s works are frequently on display not only in established galleries but also in alternative venues such as shops, parks, and hotels. He actively participates in international land art exhibitions and plein air events, emphasizing his receptiveness to varied settings and audiences. By engaging with these diverse platforms, he brings art into unexpected everyday contexts and connects with viewers in novel ways.

Well known for the creative variability that distinguishes his techniques and modes of expression, Strolia often experiments with innovative formats and is continuously refining his artistic approach. His inspiration is deeply rooted in the complex, evolving interplay between nature and humankind. This is reflected in the scope of his themes, ranging from landscapes and abstractions to series focused on the human figure, each illustrating the ongoing evolution of his artistic pursuits.

His enduring fascination with mythological themes has its origins in his sustained interest in the archaeomythological research of Professor Maria Gimbutiene. This influence is clearly seen in his use of mythological imagery and references to ancient Neolithic goddess sculptures. Strolia’s work has been showcased in international exhibitions across Bulgaria, Poland, Germany, and Italy, and is held in private collections in Lithuania, Poland, Japan, Germany, and the Czech Republic.

About this artwork+

The painting shows an abstract form, mainly characterized by gradients of black and shadowy gray tones. It appears as though cast within an irregular, almost coffin-like shape, creating an elongated vertical composition. Towards the center, a slightly darker, elongated blotch suggests the shadowy silhouette of a figure, or perhaps an object, that blends into the softer black surroundings. The edges where darkness meets the undefined, lighter gray backgrounds are soft and indistinct, enhancing the overall ethereal and ambiguous quality of the image. The use of monochrome shades adds a somber, introspective feel, inviting the viewer to decipher what might be lurking in the shadows or what the shape represents. There are no vivid details or definitive lines, just the interplay of darkness and light creating a minimalist yet powerful visual impact.
