Marius Kavolis, born in 1987, is a contemporary Lithuanian artist whose impact on the international art scene has been significant. His abstract creations are celebrated for their emotive force and compelling presence, reflecting a distinctive artistic perspective. Influenced by figures such as Jackson Pollock, Albert Oehlen, and Sam Francis, Marius weaves elements of their approaches into his own practice. The influence of Jean-Michel Basquiat is particularly apparent in his use of color, while Gerhard Richter’s techniques inform much of his painting process.

Kavolis’s career began to ascend with his inaugural solo exhibition in Lithuania in 2014, titled "12 1⁄2." Thirteen pieces were showcased, representing both his singular style and the commencement of his artistic exploration. The title "12 1⁄2"—or "12 and a little more"—served as a metaphor for perpetual development and an ongoing quest for creativity, implying that one year could not possibly contain his artistic drive.

Following the strong reception of his debut, Marius brought his work to a wider audience at the Affordable Art Fair in Milan, Italy, where collectors took particular notice. In 2015, he expanded his reach further with a solo exhibition in Moscow. Later that year, his participation in "Cosmoscow," an international contemporary art fair in Moscow, cemented his presence within the Russian art scene.

November 2015 marked a turning point for Marius Kavolis as he set a new record at a charity auction in London, an event arranged to honor Lithuania’s independence. His accomplishments extended into 2016 with a major exhibition at the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum, a venerable institution known for its rich collection of classical and contemporary works. Marius’s advancing career is a testament to his dedication to creative progress and his growing acclaim on the world stage.

About this artwork+

This painting by Marius Kavolis, titled "The Breaking Point," is quite vibrant and dynamic. It appears as a circular canvas, bursting with colors that radiate from the center. The artwork features various hues including blue, yellow, and purple that create a sense of intense energy and movement. Kavolis uses a style that is bold and expressive. The brushstrokes are thick and visible, emphasizing the aggressive flow of colors towards the edges. It's almost like looking into a kaleidoscope where patterns explode and expand outward. Marius Kavolis seems to explore themes of chaos and harmony. The central dark spot might represent a pivotal moment or the source from which everything else emanates. Overall, the painting's style conveys a strong emotional impact through its vivid coloration and dynamic composition.
