Artwork in the room
Marius Abramavičius-Neboisia is an artist whose philosophy is rooted in expanding the boundaries of human perception. He contemplates how individuals might perceive the world from new angles and push the frontiers of their worldview. Abramavičius proposes that people ordinarily access only a small fraction of their true capabilities, seeing just a limited slice of reality. With his artwork—most notably through his distinctive use of color—he urges viewers to extend their vision and to encounter the unseen dimensions of life.
Having been born and raised in Vilnius, Lithuania, Abramavičius-Neboisia feels a profound attachment to his native city, yet he is equally passionate about travel. His explorations, both local and far afield, infuse his creative process with a broad spectrum of cultural influences. Throughout his artistic journey, he has presented more than 60 solo exhibitions on an international scale, displaying his creations in a variety of venues across the globe. His artistic interests are not confined to painting alone; he delights in constructing stone pillars, flying kites, and unfurling his monumental paintings as flags high in the sky.
Abramavičius-Neboisia’s reputation extends far beyond painting—he is also known as a photographer, writer, poet, adventurer, and expert in kite flying. He is a familiar figure in a wide range of places, from Užupis (Vilnius’s artistic quarter) to Tibet, Azerbaijan, and Greece. The artist weaves together his physical journeys with his ongoing spiritual exploration, encouraging meetings not only in tangible locations but also within the realms of the soul. His multifaceted nature is a testament to his dedication to delving into and expressing the breadth of human experience.
The artist is convinced that the soul is capable of perceiving much more than the limited scope available in everyday existence. “The soul sees wide, sees much more than one is used to seeing in everyday life, where we have only 5 percent of visibility,” he remarks. To Abramavičius-Neboisia, this universal perspective is always within reach—whether he is gazing up at the stars or reflecting on the world during ordinary moments. He invites viewers to look beyond the surface, encouraging them to lose themselves in his works and to experience the expanded reality they reveal.
About this artwork+
The painting portrays a vibrant and dynamic seascape, dominated by intense shades of blue and red. The colors swirl together, creating the impression of waves in fiery motion. The blues range from deep navy to lighter aqua, suggesting both the depth and the frothy tops of waves. The reds and oranges intermingle, resembling flames, which adds a dramatic and almost surreal contrast to the cool blues. This interplay of colors gives the scene an energetic, almost tempestuous feel, as if the viewer is looking at an ocean set ablaze under a tumultuous sky. The bold, sweeping brushstrokes enhance the sense of movement and chaos within the natural elements, creating a stark visual impact that captures both the beauty and power of nature.
