All artworks

Jolanta Vitkutė is an artist who earned her Bachelor's degree in fresco mosaics and is presently pursuing a Master's in the same discipline. With two years spent working in mural restoration, she has developed a distinct outlook on historical artworks and their techniques. Both her education and professional experience play an essential role in shaping her artistic style and methods.

Vitkutė characterizes her creative process as a kind of silent contemplation, where she instinctively assembles fragments of thought while she paints. Her pursuit of mysticism in daily life is powerfully echoed throughout her art. Led by her innermost impulses, she creates visual arrangements that convey elements of magical realism, inviting viewers to delve into the implied stories within each work.

There is often an enigmatic, sometimes subtly unsettling tone that permeates Jolanta's art. She finds herself especially fascinated by motifs like ancient shamans, graveyards, timeworn parks, and the crumbling traces left behind by humans. Through these themes, she conveys the notion that humankind is not truly in command of the world but is simply a minor part of an immense and untamable natural system.

Her paintings are intended to highlight that existence encompasses more than what appears on the surface. Jolanta Vitkutė’s art underscores the belief that natural forces elude our total grasp and control, encouraging viewers to contemplate the hidden mysteries that shape the world around us.

About this artwork+

The painting depicts a stylized cat-like creature, predominantly rendered in soft, muted tones. This figure is unique, characterized by a single, large eye centered on its face, which is intensely colored with hues of green and blue, surrounded by a dark rim. This eye seems to command the composition, drawing the viewer's focus immediately. The creature’s fur appears textured, with brushstrokes visible in whites, grays, and beiges, creating a tactile sensation. The ears are pointed and pronounced, adding to its alert and mystical demeanor. The background is a flat, dark maroon color, which contrasts with and enhances the subdued palette of the creature. Shadows and subtle gray tones around the neck and lower face of the creature lend depth to the piece, portraying a sense of volume and the contouring of its form.
