Jolanta Uznevičiūtė stands out as a daring and inventive artist, drawing her creative impulse directly from her surroundings. Instead of searching for inspiration in faraway sources, she is captivated by the fascinating interplay of shapes, light, and colours in daily life. These observed impressions are transformed into vivid recollections, and when she transfers them to canvas, they unleash a dynamic energy that connects with viewers and encourages them to engage in her visual storytelling.

Her art maintains a foundation in the concrete world, yet her method openly incorporates playful abstraction. Jolanta’s distinct aesthetic is marked by geometric patches of colour that dissolve into gentle, blurred outlines. The energetic interaction of tones, animated brushwork, subtle gradations, and layered dabs of paint together summon a sense of familiarity, inspiring connections to well-known places or brief, real-life encounters.

The artist has described her creative process as a means of connecting with the beauty and intricacy of the world. She recognizes the peerless wonder of nature, yet regards its emotional effect as merely the beginning of a profound artistic investigation. Painting becomes her means of expression: "The beauty of nature is incomparable, but the feeling it creates is a key and an instrument for talking about experience and existence," Uznevičiūtė observes.

With her canvases, Jolanta Uznevičiūtė aims to encapsulate the enduring impressions left by moments observed in life and nature. Each piece invites the audience to discover the quiet tales told through her use of colour and shape, providing insight into the emotional and sensory layers of her experience. What emerges is a spirited and original collection of works, defined by instinct and keen observation.

About this artwork+

This painting features a tranquil, minimalistic landscape divided into horizontal bands of color. A broad swath of pale yellow, suggestive of a sky, dominates the upper third of the composition. Below it, a band of deep blue paints the impression of a calm sea or river. The interaction of these two elements creates an expansive horizon line in the middle, hinting at vast, open spaces. This expanse is anchored by a more solid band of light grey below, which could represent a distant shore or perhaps a mist-covered field. A vivid stripe of green at the very bottom suggests a closer, grassy bank. To the left, parts of a dark, shadowy area introduce the silhouette of a tree or some foliage, framing the composition and adding depth and contrast to the stark simplicity of the water and sky. The entirety of the scene is rendered with soft, brushy textures that enhance its serene, almost dreamlike quality.
