Irena Kavaliauskienė is an artist whose passion for drawing has accompanied her throughout her entire life. Like many others, she started making art as a child and continued to cultivate this interest into adulthood. Although she initially pursued a career in a field unrelated to art or creativity, her enduring love of drawing ultimately guided her toward a formal education in art.

She decided to attend the Justinas Vienožinskis Art School, a step that played a crucial role in developing her artistic abilities. For three years, Irena dedicated her evenings to enhancing her skills, working persistently with pencils, paintbrushes, and pens. Her dedication enabled her to polish her technique and delve deeper into her creative capabilities.

Character illustration, with an emphasis on animals, is now the primary focus of Irena’s artistry. She perceives each illustration as a story, encouraging viewers to discover their own interpretations of the narratives suggested by her work. Employing a variety of drawing techniques, she finds particular satisfaction in using dry pastel, colored pencils, and charcoal.

Irena’s creative progress has earned public acknowledgment, including several exhibitions held in Vilnius and Trakai. Through these public showings, Irena Kavaliauskienė continues to share her unique perspective and passion for storytelling through visual art.

About this artwork+

This painting features a large, friendly-looking snake wearing a crown. The snake's skin is detailed in shades of gray and brown, with patches of lighter colors, giving it a textured appearance. It coils gracefully, adding a dynamic element to the composition. The crown on its head is simple and golden, suggesting a royal or celebratory theme, fitting for the title "Happy New Year." Irena Kavaliauskienė's style in this artwork is realistic with a touch of whimsy, especially evident in the anthropomorphic portrayal of the snake. The use of muted colors and soft shading creates a somewhat dreamy atmosphere. This choice of style adds depth and character, making the snake appear benign and almost smiling. Kavaliauskienė's technique and the emotion conveyed through the snake's expressive eyes are captivating, drawing viewers into the festive yet serene world she has created.
