About this artwork+
The painting presents a detailed and expansive view of Kaunas Oldtown as seen from across the Neris River. The foreground features the smooth surface of the river, reflecting light and mirroring hints of the structures above. Trees delicately line the riverside, partially bare, suggesting the cooler seasons. Beyond, the Oldtown stretches horizontally across the composition, adorned with various historical buildings showcasing a range of architectural styles. Prominent amongst these are multi-tiered spires of churches, ornate facades, and a distinct mix of Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance influences visible in the rooftops and turrets. The skyline is uneven and picturesque, with buildings densely packed but each distinct in its contour and height. The overall atmosphere evokes a feeling of tranquility and the rich heritage of the city, captured meticulously through fine line work and careful attention to detail and scale.
