About this artwork+
The painting depicts the Town Hall located in the Old Town of Kaunas. It’s a detailed, Baroque-style building with impressive architectural elements, including a grand central tower topped by a weathervane, ornate windows, and a staircased entrance. The structure is rendered with intricate linework enhancing its historical aura. Surrounding the Town Hall, faint outlines of other traditional buildings can be seen, suggesting its placement in a bustling city center. These angels, playfully interacting among the clouds and draped with flowing robes, add a mystical feel to the depiction of this urban landscape. Their presence invokes a sense of history and mythology intertwined with the everyday life of the city. The word "Kaunas" is sketched at the bottom left, anchoring the artwork firmly to its geographical inspiration.
