Lithuanian artist Danielius Rusys is distinguished by his imaginative and singular painting approach. Although self-taught at first, he began presenting his artwork publicly in Klaipėda in 1992. Motivated by a deep passion for art, Rusys eventually moved to Vilnius to undertake formal studies, earning a master’s degree in monumental painting from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2013. At present, he works as a resident artist at the Užupis Art Incubator and is affiliated with the Lithuanian Artists' Association (LDS).
Over the course of his career, Danielius Rusys has mounted numerous solo exhibitions and takes part regularly in group shows and plein-air workshops. His ongoing involvement in artistic circles underlines his dedication to discovering new ideas and working methods, engaging with both local and the wider Lithuanian art communities. Rusys’s art consistently stands out for its originality and evocative style.
In creating his works, Rusys makes use of a wide range of expressive means. His art draws inspiration from pittura metafisica, surrealist visions, Dadaist wit, and poetic sensibility, often weaving assemblage-like puzzles throughout his pieces. The paintings commonly feature fantastical and whimsical motifs, including figures with exaggerated proportions, unusual perspectives, and characters either possessing animal heads or lacking facial features altogether, evoking the essence of surreal fairy tales.
Danielius Rusys’s distinctive visual expression is marked by gentle, desaturated backgrounds built from layers of pastel shades. Upon these muted fields, he interposes vivid lines, circles, and ornamental forms, giving his works unique texture and dimensionality. The fusion of soft color schemes with luminous highlights lends his art an enigmatic, dreamlike mood, firmly placing Rusys’s work within the realm of contemporary Lithuanian art.

The painting features a striking image of a nude human figure reclined in a surreal, fantastical landscape. The background and immediate setting around the figure are awash in shades of warm red and gold, invoking an almost molten, honey-like atmosphere. The figure itself is draped languidly and appears partially merged with structures resembling honeycombs, which also cover parts of the figure's lower body and right arm. Large, realistic-looking bees are strewn across the canvas, hovering over the figure and nestled in the honeycomb structures, suggesting a deep, intrinsic link between the bees and the figure.
