Birutė Ašmonienė's paintings are distinguished by their sense of lightness. She favors working en plein air, drawn to the immediacy and spontaneity offered by the natural environment. The necessity of working quickly outdoors leads her to use bold, swift brushstrokes, leaving each stroke visible and unmixed. Her work retains the lively energy of a sketch, deliberately steering clear of elaborate detail and instead capturing the evocative spirit of a fleeting moment.

Birutė Ašmonienė's artistic path began in the adult group at the J. Stauskaitė Children and Youth Art School. She later advanced her abilities at the Savickas Art School, where she studied in the "Baltas kubas" studio. These formative experiences allowed her to build a strong technical foundation and hone her artistic sensibility.

The artist deepened her expertise through the mentorship of well-known artists such as V. Binkis, V. Ajauskas, A. Baltrūnas, A. Pakalka, and K. Dineikaitė, among others. Their influence, together with her frequent participation in annual summer plein-air events and collaborative painting sessions, supported her ongoing stylistic growth. Being part of the painters' collective "Nine Winds" has further inspired her and encouraged her to delve more deeply into her creative pursuits.

In a creative career spanning over a decade, Birutė Ašmonienė has taken part in approximately thirty group exhibitions. Her art has been exhibited in a range of settings, including art galleries, libraries, the Seimas, the Government Palace, Užutrakis Manor, and the National Philharmonic. Through these frequent exhibitions, she continues to introduce her expressive, light-infused works to ever-broader audiences.

About this artwork+

The painting captures a lush swamp scene replete with vivid natural elements. At the forefront, a tangle of fallen, leafless tree branches is steeped in muddy waters, their pale bark reflecting the soft light. Surrounding this central feature is a dense blend of undergrowth in shades of lush green and hints of yellow, suggesting a rich, wet landscape. Further back, the water seems to expand into a serene pool, mirroring the subtle blues and greys of the sky above and flanked by more dense vegetation. In the distance, a line of trees seen against a hazy background creates a sense of depth and isolation. The overall atmosphere is one of tranquil wilderness, untouched and primeval, with the play of light and shadow adding a dynamic yet serene mood to the scene.
