When viewing Aurika’s paintings, audiences may at times sense that the artist herself is otherworldly. However, when questioned about the main figure in her work, Aurika is quick to point out that her angels do not originate from biblical tradition; instead, they symbolize the kindness people share with one another. These angels bestow gifts, watch over households, communicate with birds, move through the cycles of the year, and carry hope wherever they go. An inveterate optimist, the artist always sees the glass as fuller rather than empty—a perspective that shines unmistakably throughout her art.

Aurika confides that her Angel remains a constant presence in her life, and she is genuinely delighted when her creations bring happiness, peace, or warmth to others. She places little value on publicity, preferring her art to speak for itself. Her heartfelt belief is straightforward: "We all have our Angels, and they are always near us." The sense of tenderness and protection found in her paintings deeply resonates with viewers, offering both comfort and inspiration.

The artist employs an ancient tempera method—a craft now largely forgotten—that requires both expertise and patience. For Aurika, the act of crafting intricate details within her artwork serves as a meditative pursuit; she spends ample hours on each piece, achieving results that are consistently uncluttered, harmonious, and refined. Each painting contains layers of symbolism: somber tones like black or midnight blue denote the cosmos, while horizontal strokes divide the canvas into segments representing different times and realms, such as "now and later" or "Earth and the unknown." Her paintings are distinguished by subtle codes, prompting every viewer to find their own interpretation.

Aurika Piliponienė is a graduate of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, where she earned her Master’s degree. She has showcased her work in solo exhibitions throughout Lithuania, the Netherlands, and the United States, and is represented by galleries in both Lithuania and New York. Her soulful portrayals of angels are part of private collections in Lithuania, Sweden, Finland, France, Germany, England, the United States, Australia, and the Netherlands. Although her main thematic focus has remained steady over the years, Aurika consistently discovers fresh ideas, often inspired by her dreams, ensuring her art retains an ever-renewed vibrancy.

About this artwork+

In the painting, a serene, elongated figure stands amidst a dense foliage of leaves, which varies in shades from deep greens to soft browns and creams. The figure, appearing ethereal and contemplative, is adorned in an elegant dress with vertical peach and red stripes, giving an impression of both grace and structure. This dress cascades gently, blending subtly into the floral background. Her skin is pale, almost blending with the muted colors of her surroundings, and her hair is stylized in a smooth, flowing manner that contours to the shape of her head. In her gentle hands, she holds a small, delicate bird, indicative of her protective and caring nature, while two other birds beside her seem to be under her watchful eye, adding a sense of tranquility and guardianship to the scene. The overall atmosphere embodies a quiet harmony, suggesting the protective and guiding presence of a guardian angel within a secluded, natural sanctuary.
