Artwork in the room
Aurelija Kairytė Smolianskienė is a painter whose artwork has been featured in numerous local exhibitions throughout Lithuania. She adeptly merges watercolour and oil on canvas, delving into the dynamic relationship between these two mediums to craft vibrant and harmonious compositions. By making deliberate choices in materials, she is able to experiment with both translucency and texture, producing paintings that capture delicate nuances of colour and form.
Residing on an animal farm nestled within the Lithuanian countryside, Aurelija is constantly surrounded by unspoiled forests and tranquil velvet lakes that inspire her artistic vision each day. The magical landscape and its wealth of natural beauty frequently appear as repeating motifs in her paintings. Moreover, local folk legends and the fantasies sparked by them nurture her imagination, playing a significant role in shaping her visual narratives.
Drawing extensively on her own experiences and emotions, Aurelija’s work remains deeply personal while also resonating with a wider audience. As an artist whose roots are grounded in rural Lithuania, she recognizes that her imagery defies straightforward interpretation, weaving together passing recollections, regional myths, and silent dreams. This sense of mystery encourages viewers to engage with her art through their own individual perspectives.
Academically trained in the arts, she completed her studies at the National School of Art. In 2008, Aurelija earned a Master of Arts degree from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in Lithuania, a significant achievement that has further fostered her development as an artist.
About this artwork+
The painting depicts a vibrant, dreamlike scene filled with an array of whimsical elements and colors. At the center, there is a figure that resembles a mythological creature or fairy, seated and seemingly interacting with or watching over the scene. This figure has delicate, elfin features and is adorned with what appears to be a crown with antlers, enhancing its mythical quality. The background and surroundings are awash with soft, watercolor-like hues of blue, yellow, and pink, suggesting a magical or ethereal setting. Surrounding the central figure are various fantastical elements including trees with human-like faces, adding an animated and mystical quality to the scene. These trees seem to express emotions, with eyes and mouths that convey their sentient nature. One tree on the left side of the painting displays vibrant blue foliage, while another on the right side shows more subdued colors. Each element within the composition, including small, colorful dots that float around like orbs of light or bubbles, contributes to an atmosphere of enchantment. The lower part of the painting features another figure, smaller, possibly a child or another mythical being, playing or interacting with the surroundings near what looks to be a body of water or a reflective surface. This interaction suggests a narrative or a connection between the elements and characters portrayed. Throughout the painting, there are subtle hints of creatures and beings, possibly animals or other mythical entities, intermingling with the more prominent characters, adding layers of story and interaction that seem both whimsical and mysterious. The entire composition, with its fluidity of forms and burst of colors, evokes a sense of a hidden, untold story waiting to be discovered or interpreted by the viewer.
