Audinga Mockaitienė, a Lithuanian artist, draws her motivation for painting from a deep desire to stir emotions in others. She sees artistic expression as both a privilege and a gift, regarding painting as an indispensable aspect of her existence. Through her creations, she aims to move and inspire viewers, regarding her artistic exploration as an ongoing journey marked by experimentation and continual self-renewal.
Her preferred style is expressionism, distinguished by the application of bold, thick oil paint layers that evoke profound emotional resonance. For Audinga, painting becomes a transformative process—an interval in which reality recedes and imagination assumes control. Inspired by everything around her, she translates impressions of people, landscapes, and city scenes into energetic compositions that give voice to her internal landscape.
To Audinga, painting serves as her unique language of liberty, unbound by traditional limitations of thought or emotion. She perceives each piece as an unplanned capture of momentary feelings, offering viewers the opportunity to relate, interpret, and craft their own individual reactions. This interplay of collective and intensely personal storytelling, she believes, represents the true enchantment and mystique of painting.
Art has been an essential part of Audinga’s world since childhood, fostered early by supportive parents who were musicians. Her early artistic skills were honed at Kaunas Antanas Martinaitis Art School, and she went on to study architecture at Kaunas University of Technology from 2007 to 2013. While pursuing her academic goals, she continued to refine her painting skills at Gintaras Zubrys’s acclaimed art studio and participated energetically in plein-air sessions both in Lithuania and other countries. Her paintings have been displayed in group exhibitions and in a solo show in 2018, connecting with audiences not only in Lithuania, but also in the United Kingdom and Iceland.
About this artwork+
The painting depicts a serene landscape under a spacious sky scattered with fluffy clouds painted in hues of white and lavender. Below the expansive sky, a range of gently rolling hills stretches across the canvas, rendered in shades of soft green and earthy browns. A cluster of rustic buildings with roofs in shades of pink and red-orange sits nestled among the hills, suggesting a quaint village or small farmstead. The architecture is simple, evocative of a rural setting. Slender, upright cypress trees punctuate the landscape, adding a distinctive vertical element that contrasts with the horizontal lines of the hills. The foreground is marked by vibrant green fields, hinting at a lush, fertile valley. The overall atmosphere conveyed by the artwork is one of tranquility and untouched natural beauty, typical of the Provence region.
